On Making Slowly
There is something sacred about choosing not to rush. The more we rush, the more we lose sight of life. Every morning I work towards a calm morning routine for myself and for my family because I want the day to start in this tone. I hope my children will one day thank me for this.
I also want to set this tone in my work so that I am able enjoy the process of creating - to be fully present and not rushed. Making slowly asks us to be present. It asks us to notice texture, tension, breath, and how we feel. It reminds us that quality is not produced by force, but by attention and passion.
Albert Einstein once said, that “play is the highest form of research”, and I couldn’t agree more. Knitting, creating, and using a variety of different materials and colors allows me to play while working. What a concept!
Every piece at Worn Close begins this way. Not as a product, but as dance between creative play, skilled craftsmanship, and intuition. Making slowly leaves room for beautiful imperfection. And in that space, it leaves room for honesty.
To make slowly is to choose initmacy and to support creative play.
May we all play and create more,
Selva
